Poznań Cathedral, officially the Archcathedral Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul, stands on Ostrów Tumski island and is considered one of the earliest Christian churches in Poland. Its origins trace to the baptism of Mieszko I in 966. The current Gothic structure, rebuilt after wars, houses the Golden Chapel with tombs of early Polish rulers. Visitors can explore the crypt with remnants of the original pre-Romanesque church, and admire the twin towers and stained glass. It remains an active place of worship and a symbol of Polish statehood.

  • Descend into the crypt to see the remains of the 10th-century baptistery.
  • Visit the Golden Chapel, a richly decorated mausoleum of early Piast rulers.
