Block 11, known as the 'death block,' was the prison within Auschwitz I where inmates were held in cramped, dark cells and subjected to torture and executions. The courtyard between Block 10 and 11 was used for shootings. Today, visitors see the cramped standing cells, the starvation cells, and the execution wall. Its distinctiveness comes from its role as a site of punishment and the first mass executions, symbolizing the camp's brutal discipline.

Don't miss

  • Enter the dark, cramped standing cells where prisoners were forced to stand overnight.
  • Visit the execution wall in the courtyard, where thousands were shot.
  • See the cell of Saint Maximilian Kolbe, who volunteered to die in place of another prisoner.
