Chicón is a prominent mountain in the Urubamba range, rising to over 5,500 meters and offering a demanding but rewarding climb. Hikers traverse steep trails through rocky terrain and past glacial lakes, with the summit providing sweeping vistas of the Sacred Valley and surrounding peaks. The ascent typically requires a full day and a good level of fitness, but the sense of accomplishment and the bird's-eye view of the valley make it a favorite among adventure seekers. Guides are recommended for those unfamiliar with high-altitude trekking.
Don't miss
- Summit for 360-degree views of the Sacred Valley and snow-capped peaks
- Spot wildlife like vizcachas and Andean condors along the trail
- Photograph the turquoise glacial lake at the base of the mountain
