The Paracas Peninsula forms the heart of the Paracas National Reserve, a protected area of over 335,000 hectares of desert and sea. Its landscape is a stark contrast of red and golden sand dunes against the deep blue Pacific, with wind-sculpted rock formations and cliffs plunging into the ocean. Visitors can drive or cycle along the reserve's roads to viewpoints like Mirador de los Lobos, where sea lions bask on rocky shores, and Playa Roja, a beach with striking red sand. The reserve is also a haven for birdwatchers, with flamingos, Andean condors, and Humboldt penguins.

Don't miss

  • Drive to Mirador de los Lobos to watch sea lions and seabirds from a cliffside viewpoint.
  • Walk on Playa Roja, a beach with naturally red sand colored by iron-rich minerals.
  • Spot flamingos in the La Aguada lagoon, especially during the breeding season (December–March).
