Llaqtapata is an Inca archaeological site believed to have functioned as a checkpoint or resting place along the Inca Trail. Its terraced platforms and rectangular structures overlook the Aobamba River valley, with some sections offering glimpses of Machu Picchu in the distance. The site's strategic location made it ideal for controlling access to the sacred city. Today, hikers pause here to appreciate the engineering and the landscape.
