The wreck of the Japanese destroyer Suzunami lies in 30–40 meters of water in Simpson Harbour, a challenging dive for experienced explorers. Sunk by US aircraft in November 1943, the vessel sits upright on the seabed, its bow and stern largely intact. Divers can swim past gun turrets, depth charge racks, and the bridge, where marine life now thrives. The site offers a poignant encounter with naval history, with strong currents adding to the adventure.

Don't miss

  • Swim around the intact bow with its distinctive Japanese destroyer lines and anchor chains.
  • Explore the bridge area, where instruments and telegraphs remain visible.
  • Observe coral-encrusted gun mounts and depth charge launchers teeming with fish.
