Mount Hagen is an active stratovolcano rising to 3,778 meters in the Western Highlands. It is the second-highest peak in Papua New Guinea and a premier destination for adventurous trekkers. The multi-day climb passes through montane forests and alpine grasslands, culminating in panoramic vistas of the surrounding valleys and distant ranges. On clear days, you can see the Bismarck Sea and other volcanic peaks. The mountain is also culturally significant to local tribes, who consider it sacred.
