The Mosque of Omar, located on Manger Square opposite the Church of the Nativity, is the oldest mosque in Bethlehem, constructed in 1860. It is named after the second Caliph, Omar ibn al-Khattab, who visited Jerusalem in the 7th century and guaranteed Christians freedom of worship. The mosque's architecture is modest, with a single tall minaret and a rectangular prayer hall adorned with Islamic calligraphy. It remains an active place of worship for the local Muslim community. Visitors can appreciate its historical role as a symbol of interfaith coexistence in Bethlehem.
