Kristiansten Fortress, built between 1681 and 1685, sits on a hill east of Trondheim's city center. It was constructed to defend the city after a devastating fire and played a role in the Great Northern War. Today, visitors can explore the well-preserved ramparts, the small museum inside, and the tower. The main draw is the sweeping view of Trondheim, the Nidelva River, and the Trondheimsfjord from the top. The fortress also hosts summer events and a café.
Don't miss
- Climb the tower for a 360-degree panorama of Trondheim and the fjord
- Explore the fortress museum with exhibits on its military history
- Walk along the ramparts and see original cannons
