The Z17 Diether von Roeder was a German destroyer sunk in Narvik harbor during the Battles of Narvik. The wreck lies in shallow water, making it accessible to divers of intermediate skill. Its superstructure is largely collapsed, but the hull and armament are clearly visible. Divers can see shell holes and torpedo damage from the 1940 engagements. The site is also a memorial, with a plaque on the nearby quay honoring the fallen. It offers a poignant, up-close encounter with a piece of WWII history.

Don't miss

  • Examine the battle damage, including a large hole from a torpedo hit
  • Spot the ship's bell and anti-aircraft guns still on the deck
  • Read the memorial plaque on the shore commemorating the crew
