Avaldsnes Church, built around 1250, is one of Norway's oldest stone churches. It was an important royal chapel for the medieval Norwegian kings, located near the ancient royal estate at Avaldsnes. The church features a simple Romanesque design, with thick stone walls and a beautiful altarpiece. Visitors can explore the interior, including medieval frescoes and runic inscriptions, and walk through the adjacent churchyard with its ancient stone cross.
