Fantoft Stave Church is a striking example of Norway's medieval wooden architecture, originally built around 1150 in Fortun and moved to its current site near Bergen in 1883. The church features a distinctive raised structure with layered roofs, ornate dragon-head gables, and a dark, tarred exterior that evokes Viking-era craftsmanship. After a devastating fire in 1992, it was meticulously reconstructed using traditional techniques, preserving its historic character. Inside, visitors can see the sparse, atmospheric interior with carved portals and a 17th-century altarpiece, offering a glimpse into Norway's Christian and pagan past.
