Built in 2013 as a temporary replacement for the earthquake-damaged ChristChurch Cathedral, the Cardboard Cathedral is a masterpiece of innovative design. Its A-frame structure uses 98 cardboard tubes coated with waterproof polyurethane, supported by timber beams. Inside, natural light filters through a stained-glass window made from triangular pieces. Visitors are struck by the serene, airy space and the symbolism of resilience. It hosts regular services and community events.
