Haruru Falls is a picturesque horseshoe-shaped waterfall on the Waitangi River, just a few kilometers from Paihia. The falls cascade over a wide rock ledge into a deep pool, surrounded by lush native bush. A short walking track leads to viewing platforms, and longer trails connect to the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. The area is popular for photography, picnics, and kayaking (the river is navigable). The falls are especially impressive after rain, when the water flow is strong, creating a misty atmosphere.
Don't miss
- View the unique horseshoe shape of the waterfall from the platform
- Walk the easy Haruru Falls Track through native bush
- Spot birds like tui and fantails in the surrounding forest
