Mueller Glacier is a major valley glacier within Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park, flowing from the Southern Alps into the Hooker Valley. It is easily viewed from the Hooker Valley Track and the Mueller Hut Route, offering dramatic perspectives of its crevassed surface and terminal ice cliffs. The glacier has retreated significantly over the past century, leaving a large terminal moraine and a proglacial lake. Visitors can see the glacier's blue ice and sometimes ice caves near the terminus, but should not attempt to walk on the glacier without a guide due to hidden crevasses and falling ice.

Don't miss

  • Views of the glacier's blue ice and crevasses from the Hooker Valley Track
  • The terminal moraine and proglacial lake formed by retreat
  • Ice caves near the glacier terminus (visible from a safe distance)
