Wharewaka is a residential suburb on the western edge of Lake Taupō, centered around a modern marina that serves as a hub for boating and lakeside leisure. The marina offers secure berths and a concrete boat ramp, making it a convenient launch point for fishing charters or pleasure cruises. Alongside the marina, a popular café provides outdoor seating with panoramic lake views, while a paved walking and cycling path follows the shoreline, connecting to nearby reserves. The area has a relaxed, upscale feel, with contemporary homes and well-kept gardens lining the streets. It's a quieter alternative to the Taupō town center, yet only a few minutes' drive away.

Don't miss

  • Stroll or cycle along the lakeside path with views of the marina and Mount Tauhara
  • Enjoy a coffee or meal at the marina-side café while watching boats come and go
  • Launch a boat from the public ramp or admire the yachts and launches moored in the marina
