The Sugar Loaf Islands are a group of volcanic islets just off the coast of New Plymouth, forming a protected marine reserve. These rugged outcrops are home to New Zealand fur seals, little blue penguins, and a variety of seabirds. Kayaking around the islands is the best way to explore sea caves and arches, while snorkeling reveals colorful marine life. The area is also popular for scenic boat tours and fishing, with Mount Taranaki providing a stunning backdrop.
Don't miss
- Kayak through sea caves and around the volcanic islets.
- Spot New Zealand fur seals basking on the rocks.
- Snorkel in the clear waters to see colorful fish and seaweed forests.
