De Adriaan is a striking 18th-century windmill located along the Spaarne River in Haarlem. Rebuilt after a fire in 2002, it now serves as a museum and a beloved city landmark. Visitors can climb its wooden stairs to learn about the history of windmills and see the inner workings of the mill, including the grinding stones and the cap that rotates to face the wind. The top floor provides a panoramic view over Haarlem's rooftops and canals, making it a perfect spot for photography. The mill is still operational, occasionally grinding grain for demonstration purposes. The on-site shop sells flour ground at the mill, offering a tangible souvenir. The experience is intimate and educational, suitable for all ages.
