St James the Great Church (Grote of Sint-Jacobskerk) dominates the skyline of Vlissingen with its imposing Gothic tower. Built mainly in the 14th and 15th centuries, the church is a fine example of Brabantine Gothic architecture. Inside, visitors can admire the wooden vaulted ceiling, a 16th-century pulpit, and several monumental tombs of naval heroes, including Admiral Michiel de Ruyter. The church also contains beautiful stained-glass windows that depict scenes from Vlissingen's maritime history. The tower, which stands about 60 meters tall, offers panoramic views of the city and the Scheldt estuary. The church is still used for services and concerts, adding to its vibrant atmosphere.
