Zandenburg is a serene public park located just outside the historic center of Veere, occupying the grounds of what was once a powerful castle. Today, the castle is gone, but its legacy remains in the form of a few ruined walls, a reconstructed gatehouse, and a prominent monument dedicated to the Zeeland nobleman Maximiliaan of Burgundy. The park is beautifully landscaped with lawns, mature trees, and winding paths that invite quiet contemplation. A central pond adds to the tranquility, and benches are placed strategically for enjoying the greenery. The site also features a small open-air theater used for summer performances. For history enthusiasts, the ruins and information panels provide a glimpse into the medieval past, while casual visitors will appreciate the park's role as a green oasis in the midst of Veere's tourist bustle. It's a lovely spot for a picnic or a leisurely afternoon stroll.
