The Veerse Meer is a vast saltwater lake created in 1961 when the Veerse Gat dam was built, separating it from the North Sea. Stretching over 20 kilometers, it is a premier destination for water sports enthusiasts. The lake's steady winds and calm waters make it ideal for sailing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing. Its shores are dotted with beaches, marinas, and nature reserves. Visitors can rent a boat, take a ferry to the island of Neeltje Jans, or simply relax on the sand. The surrounding dikes and former islands offer excellent cycling and walking routes with panoramic views. The Veerse Meer is less crowded than the coastal resorts, providing a peaceful escape into Zeeland's aquatic landscape.

Don't miss

  • Sailing and windsurfing – the lake's consistent winds attract sailors of all levels
  • Beaches at Vrouwenpolder and Kamperland – popular spots for sunbathing and swimming
  • Neeltje Jans – an artificial island with a visitor center about the Delta Works
  • Cycling the dikes – routes with views over the lake and countryside
  • Birdwatching at the nature reserves along the shore
