The Veerse Gatdam is a robust dam and causeway that connects the former island of Walcheren to Noord-Beveland, creating a vital land link across the Veerse Meer. Built as part of the Delta Works, this structure not only serves as a flood defense but also as a popular recreational route. Visitors can walk or cycle along the top of the dam, taking in sweeping views of the lake, sailing boats, and distant windmills. The flat, well-maintained path makes it accessible for all fitness levels, and there are several benches where you can pause to watch the waterfowl or simply enjoy the open landscape. On a clear day, the vista stretches across the Veerse Meer to the Zeelandic coastline, making it a favorite spot for photographers and nature lovers alike. The dam is also a starting point for longer cycling tours around the lake, with nearby parking and a small café for refreshments.

Don't miss

  • Cycle or walk the entire length of the dam for panoramic lake views
  • Spot seabirds and sailboats on the Veerse Meer
