Texel is the largest and most accessible of the West Frisian Islands, offering a blend of coastal beauty and rural charm. The island’s landscape is a patchwork of dunes, polders, forests, and farmland, crisscrossed by cycling paths and hiking trails. Visitors come for the wide, uncrowded beaches, the bird-rich Wadden Sea mudflats, and the relaxed pace of life. The main town, Den Burg, is a hub of shops and restaurants, while De Koog is the beach resort with bars and hotels. Other villages like Oudeschild and De Cocksdorp have harbors and lighthouses. Distinctive experiences include seal-watching tours, lamb-spotting in spring, and sampling local lamb and cheese. The island’s compact size makes it easy to explore by bike or bus, and the ferry ride from Den Helder adds a sense of adventure.
