De Geeuwpoldermolen, situated in the rural area near Oppenhuizen just outside Sneek, is a classic polder windmill that played a crucial role in keeping the lowlands dry. Unlike grain mills, this type of windmill is designed to pump water from the polder into the surrounding canals. Visitors will appreciate the serene setting amidst green pastures and waterways. The mill's thatched roof and rotating cap are characteristic of Dutch smock mills. Inside, you can see the Archimedes screw or paddle wheel mechanism that lifts water. The site is often quiet, offering a peaceful escape into the countryside. While not always open to the public, the exterior is always accessible and makes for a great photo opportunity, especially with the reflection in the adjacent water.
