Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is one of the Netherlands' most important art museums, renowned for its encyclopedic collection spanning from the Middle Ages to the 21st century. The museum's holdings include masterpieces by Hieronymus Bosch, Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Monet, and Dalí, as well as a superb collection of decorative arts and design. The building itself is a blend of historic and modern architecture: the original 1935 structure was expanded with a striking wing in 2019, featuring a mirrored facade that reflects the surrounding Museumpark. Inside, the galleries are arranged chronologically, allowing visitors to trace the evolution of art through the centuries. The museum's collection is particularly strong in Dutch and Flemish Old Masters, with works by Bruegel, Rubens, and Vermeer. Temporary exhibitions often focus on contemporary art and design. The museum also has a sculpture garden and a museum shop. A visit here offers a deep dive into art history in a setting that is both intimate and grand.

Don't miss

  • Hieronymus Bosch's 'The Prodigal Son' – a haunting early 16th-century masterpiece
  • Rembrandt's 'Titus at His Desk' – an intimate portrait of the artist's son
  • Van Gogh's 'The Sower' – a vibrant example of his post-impressionist style
  • Decorative arts collection: Delftware, silver, glass, and furniture from the 16th to 20th centuries
  • The mirrored 'Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen' – the world's first publicly accessible art storage facility, next door
