Hortus Botanicus Leiden, established in 1590, is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It was originally created as a herb garden for medical students, but today it boasts a vast collection of plants from around the globe. The garden is divided into several sections, including a Japanese garden, a tropical greenhouse, and a systematic garden arranged by plant families. Highlights include the giant Victoria amazonica water lilies and the historic Clusius Garden, a reconstruction of the original 16th-century layout. Visitors can stroll through themed beds, relax by the ponds, and learn about plant diversity in a serene setting. The garden also features a café and a shop selling seeds and plants.
