Kampen City Hall is a striking Gothic building that stands on the Oudestraat, the city's main thoroughfare. Its facade is adorned with statues of counts and bishops, and the tall, slender tower is a landmark visible from many points in the city. The building dates from the 14th and 15th centuries, with later additions. Inside, you can see the historic council chamber with its wooden ceiling and stained glass, as well as the wedding hall. The city hall is still used for official functions, but parts are open to the public. What makes it distinctive is the blend of Gothic architecture with later Renaissance elements, and the way it embodies Kampen's medieval civic pride. The tower, which you can sometimes climb, offers another perspective on the city. The surrounding square is lively with cafes and markets, making it a natural starting point for exploring Kampen.
