The Hoorn–Medemblik heritage railway, known locally as the 'Museumstoomtram Hoorn-Medemblik', is a beloved tourist attraction that offers a nostalgic ride on a vintage steam train. The line runs between the two historic towns of Hoorn and Medemblik, covering about 20 kilometers of North Holland's rural landscape. The journey takes approximately one hour, passing through green pastures, quaint villages, and alongside canals. The train itself is a restored steam locomotive with period carriages, providing an authentic early 20th-century travel experience. At Medemblik, passengers can explore the town's medieval castle and harbor, or continue by boat to Enkhuizen as part of a popular combined ticket. The railway is operated by volunteers and is a living museum, with the station in Hoorn featuring a small museum about the history of steam trams in the region. The ride is especially popular with families and railway enthusiasts, offering a unique way to see the Dutch countryside.
