De Nijlânnermolen is a well-preserved, operational windmill located in the town of Workum, a short distance from Hindeloopen. This polder mill, built in 1776, is used to drain the surrounding lowlands, and it remains in active use today. Visitors can tour the mill to see its internal machinery, including the grinding stones and wooden gears, and learn about the history of windmills in the Netherlands. The mill is set in a peaceful rural landscape, with walking and cycling paths nearby. The friendly miller often gives demonstrations and explains how the mill works.
