The Koornmarktspoort is one of the few remaining city gates in Monnickendam, a charming town in the Edam-Volendam region. Built in the 16th century, this gate once formed part of the town's defensive walls, controlling access to the corn market (koornmarkt) beyond. The structure features a classic stepped gable, typical of Dutch Renaissance architecture, and is made of brick with stone accents. Today, it stands as a picturesque landmark, often photographed by visitors exploring the historic center. The gate is located near the harbor, making it a natural stop on a walking tour of Monnickendam's old town. While you cannot enter the gate itself, its exterior is well-preserved and offers a glimpse into the town's medieval heritage. The surrounding area is lined with traditional houses, cafes, and the nearby Grote Kerk.
