Valkenisse is a small hamlet on the coast of the Veerse Meer, about 5 km east of Domburg. Its main attraction is the ruin of Valkenisse Castle, a medieval stronghold that once guarded the inlet. Today, only a few walls and a tower remain, but the site offers a glimpse into the region's feudal past. The castle ruin sits on a grassy knoll with sweeping views over the Veerse Meer, a large saltwater lake popular for sailing and water sports. Visitors can walk around the ruins, enjoy a picnic, and watch boats pass by. The hamlet itself has a few houses and a small marina. The area is also a starting point for walks along the dikes and through the surrounding polders.
