The Bolwoningen (sphere houses) are a cluster of 50 spherical homes in the suburb of Maaspoort, Den Bosch. Designed by architect Dries Kreijkamp in the 1980s, these concrete spheres rest on cylindrical bases, resembling a futuristic village. Each sphere is about 5.5 meters in diameter and contains three floors of living space, with circular rooms and porthole windows. The development was experimental, aiming to maximize space and light in a compact form. Today, they are privately owned and inhabited, but visitors can walk through the neighborhood to admire their unusual architecture. The area is a popular photo spot for architecture enthusiasts. The spheres are painted in pastel colors, adding to their whimsical appeal. While you cannot enter without an invitation, the exterior view is striking and unlike anything else in the Netherlands.

Don't miss

  • Walk or cycle through the sphere neighborhood to see all 50 houses.
  • Photograph the spheres from different angles, especially with the water nearby.
  • Notice the porthole windows and pastel colors that give each sphere character.
  • Read the information board at the entrance explaining the project's history.
