Dominating the Markt square, the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, built between 1381 and 1496. Its soaring tower, the second tallest in the Netherlands at 109 meters, rewards climbers with a breathtaking 360-degree view over Delft and beyond. Inside, the church is a serene space of light and stone, but its most significant feature is the ornate mausoleum of William the Silent, founder of the Dutch royal family. The royal crypt beneath the church holds members of the House of Orange-Nassau, though it is not open to the public. Stained-glass windows, a magnificent organ, and carved wooden pulpit add to the church's grandeur. Visitors can also see the tomb of the Dutch naval hero Piet Hein.
