Wouw, a peaceful village south of Bergen op Zoom, is steeped in medieval history. Its centerpiece is the Sint-Jans Onthoofdingkerk (Church of the Beheading of St. John), a Gothic church built in the 15th century with a striking tower that dominates the skyline. Inside, you'll find beautiful stained glass and a historic organ. Just outside the village lie the ruins of Kasteel van Wouw, a 13th-century castle that was once a stronghold of the Lords of Bergen op Zoom. Today, only a few walls and a tower remain, but the site is atmospheric and free to explore. The village itself is quiet, with a few shops and a cozy cafe. Wouw offers a glimpse into the region's feudal past and is a lovely spot for a short, contemplative visit.
