The Oude Kerk (Old Church) is Amsterdam's oldest building and its first parish church, consecrated around 1306. Located in the heart of the Red Light District, it stands as a serene contrast to its lively surroundings. The church is a mix of Gothic and Renaissance architecture, with a wooden vaulted ceiling, medieval stained-glass windows, and a floor made of gravestones. Today, it functions as a contemporary art space, hosting rotating exhibitions that blend history with modern installations. Visitors can explore the church's chapels, the organ, and the small museum about its history. The churchyard, once a cemetery, is now a peaceful courtyard.
