The J.C.J. van Speijk Lighthouse stands prominently on the coast of Egmond aan Zee, guiding ships along the North Sea. Built in 1833, it replaced an earlier lighthouse destroyed by storms. The tower is named after Jan van Speijk, a Dutch naval officer who became a national hero for sacrificing his ship to prevent capture. The lighthouse is a striking white cylindrical tower with a red lantern room, typical of Dutch lighthouses. Visitors can climb the 140 steps to the top for a breathtaking view of the beach, dunes, and sea. Inside, there is a small exhibition on the history of the lighthouse and local maritime heritage. The surrounding area is a pleasant promenade with benches and views of the coast. It's a must-visit for history buffs and anyone wanting a unique perspective of Egmond aan Zee.
