The Lumbini pillar inscription is a sandstone pillar erected by Emperor Ashoka during his pilgrimage to Lumbini. The inscription in Brahmi script confirms Lumbini as the birthplace of Buddha and records Ashoka's visit and tax exemptions for the village. The pillar stands about 6 meters tall and is protected within a small shelter. It is one of the most important archaeological evidence verifying Lumbini's sacred history.
