Kagbeni is a well-preserved medieval settlement located at the confluence of the Kali Gandaki and Jhong rivers, marking the official entrance to the restricted Upper Mustang region. Its narrow lanes wind between traditional mud-brick houses, some decorated with yak horns and prayer stones. The village is dominated by the red-and-white Kagbeni Gompa, a 15th-century monastery housing ancient manuscripts and a collection of Buddhist statues. Visitors can climb to the ruined fortress above the village for a sweeping view of the barren, wind-sculpted landscape. Kagbeni's timeless atmosphere and strategic location make it a captivating stop for trekkers and culture enthusiasts.
