Panauti, a historic Newar settlement near Dhulikhel, feels frozen in time with its narrow brick-paved lanes, traditional houses, and numerous temples. The centerpiece is the Indreshwar Mahadev Temple, a three-roofed pagoda dedicated to Shiva, dating back to the 15th century. Visitors can explore the temple complex, observe locals at the ancient stone water spouts (dhunge dharas), and walk to the confluence of the Roshi and Punyamati rivers. The town's well-preserved architecture and peaceful vibe make it a perfect half-day excursion from Dhulikhel.

Don't miss

  • Admire the intricate wood carvings and three-tiered roof of the Indreshwar Mahadev Temple.
  • See the ancient stone water spouts (dhunge dharas) where locals still gather.
  • Walk to the river confluence (Triveni) for a serene view of the surrounding hills.
