The Terai–Duar savanna and grasslands form a distinctive ecoregion stretching across the lowlands of Nepal and India. In Chitwan, these vast expanses of elephant grass and scattered trees create prime habitat for herbivores like rhinos and deer, which in turn attract predators. Visitors can walk along grassy trails or ride jeeps through open meadows, especially in the park's core areas. The landscape changes dramatically with the seasons: lush and green after the monsoon, dry and golden in winter. This ecosystem is crucial for bird migration and offers some of the best wildlife viewing in Asia.
