Suryavinayak Temple, perched on a hill in eastern Bhaktapur, is a revered shrine to Ganesh, the elephant-headed god of wisdom and remover of obstacles. The temple's name combines 'Surya' (sun) and 'Vinayak' (another name for Ganesh), reflecting its sunny location. Visitors climb a short flight of steps to reach the pagoda-style shrine, where devotees ring bells and offer prayers. The site is equally popular for its panoramic vistas of the Kathmandu Valley and, on clear mornings, the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas.

Don't miss

  • Take in the panoramic view of Bhaktapur and the Himalayas from the temple platform.
  • Observe devotees offering coconuts, flowers, and vermilion powder to the Ganesh idol.
  • Ring the large brass bell at the entrance to announce your visit.
