Nga Phe Chaung is a 19th-century wooden monastery built on stilts over the waters of Inle Lake, near Nyaungshwe. It is known for its collection of Buddha images, including some with unusual poses, and for its resident monks who have trained cats to jump through hoops, a quirky attraction that draws many visitors. The monastery's architecture features intricate woodcarvings and a serene atmosphere. Visitors can walk through the elevated walkways, observe monks going about their day, and see the famous cat-jumping demonstrations, though the cats are now mostly retired.
