Mottama (formerly Martaban) is a historic settlement on the opposite bank of the Thanlwin River from Mawlamyine. Once a major trading port, it retains a collection of colonial-era buildings, including old warehouses and administrative structures. The town is reached by a short, atmospheric ferry ride from Mawlamyine, offering views of the river and the bridge. Visitors can wander quiet streets, explore crumbling facades, and imagine the area's bustling past.
