Sulamani Temple stands as one of Bagan's most elegant monuments, built in the late 12th century. Its name means 'Crowning Jewel' and the temple lives up to it with exquisite stucco carvings adorning the exterior walls and terraces. Inside, the walls are covered with well-preserved frescoes illustrating scenes from the Jataka tales and Buddha's life. The temple's symmetrical design and tall spire make it a favorite for photographers. Visitors can climb the upper terrace for panoramic views of the surrounding plain and other temples.
Don't miss
- Examine the intricate stucco carvings of mythical creatures and floral motifs on the exterior.
- Study the vivid murals inside, including scenes of the Buddha's previous lives.
- Climb to the upper terrace for a panoramic view of the Bagan plain at sunrise or sunset.
