Hassan Tower is the unfinished minaret of a massive mosque begun in 1195 under Sultan Yacoub al-Mansour. Standing at 44 meters (about half its intended height), the tower is made of red sandstone with intricate carvings. Visitors see the tower rising above a field of incomplete columns and walls, offering a glimpse of the ambitious project that was never completed. The site is a powerful symbol of Rabat's Almohad heritage.

Don't miss

  • Admire the detailed geometric and floral carvings on the tower's facades
  • Walk among the hundreds of incomplete column stubs that mark the mosque's footprint
  • Photograph the tower against the sky for a striking silhouette
