Bou Inania Madrasa in Meknes was founded in 1336 by the Marinid sultan Abu al-Hasan and completed by his son. Unlike many madrasas, it still functions as a place of worship. Visitors are captivated by the intricate stucco work, carved cedar panels, and a marble basin in the courtyard. The prayer hall features a beautiful mihrab, and the upper-level student cells offer views of the courtyard. The minaret, adorned with green tiles, is a landmark in the medina.
Don't miss
- Admire the elaborate stucco and wood carvings in the courtyard and prayer hall.
- Climb to the upper-floor student cells for a panoramic view of the courtyard and minaret.
- Observe the intricate geometric patterns and Arabic calligraphy that adorn the walls.
