Fes el Bali is the historic heart of Fez, a labyrinthine medina founded in the 9th century. Its narrow, winding alleys are lined with souks, mosques, madrasas, and tanneries. With no cars, donkeys and handcarts are the main transport. Visitors can explore the Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque, the Chouara Tannery, and countless artisan workshops.
