Fes el Bali is the historic heart of Fez, a labyrinthine medina founded in the 9th century. Its narrow, winding alleys are lined with souks, mosques, madrasas, and tanneries. With no cars, donkeys and handcarts are the main transport. Visitors can explore the Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque, the Chouara Tannery, and countless artisan workshops. The medina's vibrant energy and medieval atmosphere make it a must-see.

Don't miss

  • Exploring the maze-like alleys and vibrant souks
  • Visiting the Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque and University (exterior view for non-Muslims)
  • Watching artisans at work in the metal, wood, and textile souks
