Bou Inania Madrasa, built in the 14th century, is considered the finest example of Marinid architecture in Fez. It served both as a theological college and a Friday mosque, making it one of the few madrasas in Morocco open to non-Muslims. The central courtyard is a visual feast of intricate zellij tilework, carved stucco, and cedar woodwork. The prayer hall and upper student cells offer further glimpses into medieval Islamic education. Its green-tiled minaret is a landmark in the medina.

Don't miss

  • Study the exquisite zellij tile patterns in the courtyard and prayer hall
  • Climb to the upper floor to see former student cells and views of the courtyard
  • Admire the carved cedar woodwork and stucco inscriptions throughout
