The Fortifications of Kotor are an extensive system of defensive walls, towers, and gates that stretch from the old town up the steep mountainside. Originally built by the Venetians and later expanded, these walls are among the best-preserved in the region. Visitors can hike the roughly 1,350 steps to the top, passing the Church of Our Lady of Remedy, and are rewarded with breathtaking views of the Bay of Kotor and the surrounding peaks. The climb is challenging but offers a unique perspective on the town's strategic importance.

Don't miss

  • Climb the Ladder of Kotor (the wall path) for stunning photo opportunities at every turn.
  • Visit the Church of Our Lady of Remedy, a small chapel halfway up the climb.
  • Reach the fortress of San Giovanni at the top for the best panoramic view of the bay.
