Perched on a sheer cliff overlooking the Mediterranean, the Jardin Exotique de Monaco is a marvel of horticulture and engineering. This botanical garden specializes in xerophytes, plants adapted to arid conditions, with over a thousand species of cacti and succulents from around the world, some towering several meters high. Winding pathways lead visitors through terraced levels, each offering a new perspective on the rugged beauty of these plants. The garden is also a vantage point for panoramic views of Monaco, the port, and the distant Italian Riviera. Beneath the garden, a prehistoric cave (Grotte de l'Observatoire) is open for guided tours, revealing stalactites and stalagmites. The contrast between the spiky desert flora and the lush Mediterranean backdrop makes this a unique and memorable stop.
